Posted: Jan 19, 2023
Weekly Hours: 40
Role Number: 200455919
We are the Product Systems Quality (PSQ) team, and we run user studies on new hardware products. We are looking for a Data Scientist and a Visualization Specialist to play a key role at shaping up the way we collect, digest, and visualize the data we gather in user studies. We work cooperatively with designers and engineers to understand challenging problems that arise during all stages of product design. This role requires collaborative work, proficiency using statistics and visualizations to answer specific questions about datasets, solid programming skills in R or Python, and most importantly: a passion for crafting informative visualizations and presentations to communicate results to all levels of the company. Come join our team and contribute to the research and development of some of our most magical product

Key Qualifications

  • Experience programming in R and/or Python. You have experience using these tools to import, clean, analyze and visualize data to enable data-driven decision making.
  • Able to process, debug, and clean large datasets from real-world human studies.
  • Experience writing code to generate visualizations that enable deeper insight into data.
  • Ability to quickly turn from concept/paper sketches of graphs to functional and scalable data visualizations.
  • Ability to simplify and communicate complex information in an easily understandable manner.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to help identify trends in their data or to build tools that will enable easier analysis and visualizations in the future.

Description

Our team is made up of multidisciplinary researchers and engineers who work on the latest and most innovative Apple products together with many cross-functional partners. We tackle novel research questions by designing and running experiments to test new prototypes and their effectiveness in solving a problem. Your role on this team is to be our go-to statistician and data expert to enable us to set up effective experiments and yield conclusive results at the end. A TYPICAL WORKFLOW WOULD BE TO: - Understand the research question, then lead the data-side of the study design. That includes performing power analysis, calculating population size/number of iterations, figuring out unique contributing factors, and developing data handling pipelines. - As data is being collected, you are conducting data exploration on datasets, QA/QC on data output, creating visualizations, performing statistical and mathematical modeling. - Finally, working with the rest of the team to dive into the data, analyze it together, and create the necessary visualizations to enable data-driven decision making. The role will require close collaboration with other cross-functional teams, with many opportunities to practice and grow communication skills. You??ll have a lot of latitude to define how you work; specific tools matter less than the analysis and impact they enable. This is a truly unique opportunity with broad exposure to many different teams at Apple.

    • Experience applying ML solutions to data-related problems when appropriate
    • Expertise in NumPy, Pandas, Matlab, or Tableau, or other data visualization tools/frameworks
    • Experience with basic CV algorithms and ability to apply them to simple problems Ability to create hardware heat maps and overlay data on 3D objects
